Fiery-throated Hummingbird

The students will be given the opportunity to learn how to achieve more realistic silk shading by studying the photograph of the stitched Costa’s for changes in colors and feather direction.  The written instructions contain stitch-in-progress color photographs for each area of the “Fiery-throated Hummingbird” with well-marked floss color suggestions.  The students will make decisions for color choices and placement as they stitch.

The written instructions will include diagrams of all stitches required to execute this work.  The teacher will demonstrate as needed for less accomplished stitchers.  The stitches used to complete this piece are split stitch, running stitch, and random long and short stitch, satin stitch and trailing stitch.
