Costas Hummingbird

The students will be given the opportunity to learn how to use a photograph of the stitched Costa’s hummingbird to achieve more realistic silk shading by studying the photograph for changes in colors and feather direction.  A work in progress color photo for each area of the “Costa’s Hummingbird” will be provided with floss color suggestions.  The students will make decisions for color choices and placement as they stitch.

The written instructions, with color “stitch in progress” photos, will include diagrams of all stitches required to execute this piece.  The teacher will demonstrate as needed for less accomplished stitchers.  The stitches used to complete this piece are split backstitch, running stitch, and random long and short stitch, satin stitch, trailing stitch and straight stitch.
